Review - The Winner's Kiss

16. The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski (5 stars)

I was starting to think I give everything 4 stars but this definitely warranted 5!
Following on from what I said previously about how nearly all my books have supernatural/fantasy elements, I was thinking yesterday about how this is a rare trilogy (for me) because it doesn't and is more historical, albeit alternative history maybe, instead - not sure how you would categorise it actually but feels more like that to me
Anyway I loved it and thought it was a great ending to the trilogy, I know you will love it too
There were quite a few sections where jumps between perspectives and scenes even from paragraph to paragraph which I think is fairly unusual, I liked that though as kept it really fast paced and meant could see all different things going on at once
Think this is up there as a favourite series, although I just add to that list rather than knocking any off the bottom:) also definitely one I would purchase for other people as gifts which I know is one of your measures for great books:) as we've discussed before, only thing I'd change is the covers as I worry that might put people off, as not sure I would ever have picked it up if we hadn't heard Marie speak about it and got intrigued about the story that way
Read it soon!!

Review - Death:The Deluxe Edition

15. Death: The Deluxe Edition by Neil Gaiman (3 stars)

My very first graphic novel!
I was unsure how I would find reading stories with picture and still think takes some getting used to, but the stories themselves were interesting and Death as a character is pretty cool.  I think I probably missed some of the detail as I paid more attention to the text than the pictures but I would try another graphic novel so a success on that front!
I can't see you liking this one much to be honest but you are welcome to borrow it if like:)

Review - Rebel of the Sands

14. Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton (4 stars)

So you own this now too:)
Also a beautiful cover!
I am not yet sure whether there will be more books in this series but I would definitely read more about this world.  I wasn't sure at first about how the fantasy elements were introduced but I think possibly I had forgotten there were would be any (what was I thinking? Basically all the books I read have fantasy or supernatural elements!) anyway but once got into it, was a really different story in terms of the background stories and mythology (I'll steal that word from Kirsty's review:) and really enjoyable and easy to read.
Hope you like it too, and is cool that Alwyn will be at yalc too so we can hopefully hear her speak about her inspiration and future books:)

Review - The Sleeping Prince

13. The Sleeping Prince by Melinda Salisbury (4 stars)

Only just noticed you had posted about golden son and morning star, sorry! Yes I do know what you mean about Snape moment:) think we have discussed already but I loved Ragnor too in those books, thought his culture and morals etc were really interesting, and loved how he talked in capitals:)

Anyway on to this one: so this is obviously another one you will be reading soon too but just to say I enjoyed it; there were a couple of things I could have done with reminding myself about from the first one before reading but was a cool sequel as had new main characters as well as being clearly linked with first book.  Think these books still winning for me as best covers ever too!
I am lucky that will get to see Melinda Salisbury again this week at a book panel (I will try to take a photo of the panel for on here!) but is cool that she will also be at yalc too, so you have plenty of time to read this before then:)
I know you'll enjoy this:)
