Books 6 and 7 Golden Son and Morning Star by Pierce Brown

So, i was convinced I'd already written up Golden Son and now that I've finished Morning Star too I'm just going to write about both together.

I bloodydamn loved these books. The end of Golden Son, oh my! Was so pleased i didn't have to wait more than a day to pick up my lovely signed copy of Morning Star! Am still gutted to have missed the signing as Pierce,  yeah that's right I'm on a first name basis, seems so incredibly awesome! I feel like he looks a lot like i imagine Darrow to look too,  as i don't really picture Darrow as a gold in my head.

Sevro and Mustang are two of my favourite characters for a long time! I remember you saying about how you'd discussed your favourite character with him so you'll have to share that with me now.

I'm really pleased with how that trilogy ended, no spoilers obviously, and excited to hear of spin off ideas. Now I've read them, is there any more info out there about the spin offs?

Wish I'd read these books sooner. I do feel like they aren't really like anything else I've read actually.

Loved them.

I also feel like at the point you'll know about i thought it was a Snape moment and i was like "i knew it"

Review - The Lie Tree

12. The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge (4 stars)

Read this for book club and not sure I would have picked it up otherwise but really glad I read it.  I wouldn't describe as horror (not sure if anyone would to be fair, I only say that because I know some of her other books have been) so don't let that put you off either. I guess has some creepy moments but not anything you would find disturbing I don't think.
Was a really interesting concept and I especially liked she how wove in themes of feminism and gender stereotyping as a part of the story but not in a way that seemed like was just getting it in as an "issue", was just part of the story, and made me think about various things that were introduced along the way.
I would recommend this as something a bit different from what we usually read, and I will try more of France's Hardinge's books, maybe the cuckoo song as I've looked at that a few times.

Review - Night Study

11. Night Study by Maria V Snyder (4 stars)

So I think I already said this to you but reading this series is always really comforting in a way, in that really familiar and can just jump into the story and all the characters so easily and quickly, and know will enjoy it from the start.  This one starts straight after the last one finished so that also helped in reminding me of little bits that had slipped my mind.
Really enjoyed this one, and love how now there's been so many books and different trilogies that other characters can appear whichever set it is.
I deliberated on how many stars to give this one too; I was thinking that sometimes I am not sure I necessarily feel as emotionally connected to some of the characters compared to those in other books, hard to explain but i don't know if sometimes can be slightly more surface level to some other YA books, but then again that could just be the familiarity thing, I don't know, would be interested to see if you know what I mean?!
Anyway I know you'll like this one:)

Review - Glass Sword

10. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard (4 stars)

So it was cool to be able to read this so soon after Red Queen while everything still fresh in my mind. I debated how many stars to give this one, and feel like it might be a book that I'll view as a five star one when I look back on it, but the main reason I went for 4 in the end was that I didn't enjoy quite as much as the first one, having said that I did read quite quick and was keen to find out what happened, and it was still really good. There were also some cool and interesting new characters introduced and was pretty exciting, particularly the end , so I am already looking forward to reading the next one.  Am also pleased to see there are some short stories coming out this year too:)

PS this book is huge! Was very heavy (in fact reading this after Morning Star and having carried those both around in my handbag made my back ache #readersproblems) so you might struggle to read while feeding Jed!

Review - Morning Star

9. Morning Star by Pierce Brown (5 stars)

Thought I might as well use the photo of me holding our signed books:) note my red and gold nails which I did for the signing!
I know you're still reading this one so obviously won't say too much, but I loved this one even more than Golden Son (which I gave five stars to anyway!) Was so much that happened in just one book! Many tense and emotional moments, but overall a very satisfying ending to the trilogy I think.
Am happy he is writing another spin off trilogy too though as ended up really loving reading about this world, as violent as it was! Also really liked the language, and I think it's cool how if you see people commenting on Pierce Brown's posts online they often say "my goodman" etc, and something about the phrases he created just really helped make the world more real somehow.
Oh also the fact that I read this on a deadline for the signing meant was some pressure to read but also was pretty nice reading a book so quick and made me think I need to schedule in more time for reading at weekends at other times too (eg the illustrated version of philosopher's stone:)
Hope you get to finish soon:)
