Review - The Lie Tree

12. The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge (4 stars)

Read this for book club and not sure I would have picked it up otherwise but really glad I read it.  I wouldn't describe as horror (not sure if anyone would to be fair, I only say that because I know some of her other books have been) so don't let that put you off either. I guess has some creepy moments but not anything you would find disturbing I don't think.
Was a really interesting concept and I especially liked she how wove in themes of feminism and gender stereotyping as a part of the story but not in a way that seemed like was just getting it in as an "issue", was just part of the story, and made me think about various things that were introduced along the way.
I would recommend this as something a bit different from what we usually read, and I will try more of France's Hardinge's books, maybe the cuckoo song as I've looked at that a few times.
